The Local Area
Amongst the most beautiful areas of the English countryside, the Cotswolds have much to offer the visitor: glorious scenery, hallmark honey-coloured stone cottages, pretty villages (Chalford, Oakridge Lynch, Bisley, Far Oakridge) and history everywhere you turn.
Our specially chosen properties are perfectly placed for touring the whole of the area or for simply staying put in the heart of the Five Valleys. For those who wish to explore, there are many attractions on the doorstep: wonderful walks through glorious scenery to pretty villages and cosy pubs, for example. But for those who wish to travel further afield, most of the important towns of the Cotswolds are within easy reach with the cities of Oxford, Bristol and Bath a comfortable day trip away..
The South Cotswolds, and the Five Valleys in particular, while equally as stunning as their more famous Northern cousins, have an interesting and added dimension to their appeal: the impact of trade and industry.
The Wool Trade flourished in these parts for centuries. The innovations of the first Industrial Age were embraced by local artisans keen to take advantage of modernisation and invention. With increased production came greater wealth and a flurry of building large, impressive, comfortable and imposing homes as testaments to success.
Thanks to this tide of prosperity we have a legacy of many wonderful, period properties both domestic and industrial. So, factories, mills, manor houses and cottages nestle happily together in an integrated mix that is unusual to find but fascinating to experience.
